And once you get to Iron Keep I would get the Uchigatana which is a very nice weapon for a caster since it does good damage when infused and has low str/dex requirements.
Dark souls 2 is much, much easier to Unga Bunga STR weapon compared to other Soulsborne games. There's no weapon that is best in every situation. Generally though you can narrow it down to Old Knight Hammer, Ice Rapier, Homunculus Mace, and Chaos Blade for PvE. Of those, only Ice Rapier and Chaos Blade are exceptional in PvP. Best PvE equipment and stat progression document.
